Meghan O’Brien Lowery
“Shame always shrivels when you share it out loud” —Marie Forleo
“Life is very short and what we have to do must be done in the now” —Audre Lorde
Meghan O’Brien Lowery is CEO of MegLow Consulting, a firm that provides a variety of support services to philanthropists and those working in the non-profit space to create more impact and change. She also serves as a Director and Partner at The Greenbaum Foundation, a private non-operating foundation that focuses on ending factory farming and reimagining a more sustainable food system.
Meghan has spent the past two decades working in the philanthropic and non-profit space cultivating a unique perspective and voice around grant making and fundraising. Her past experience working in health, social services, climate change and animals has shaped her approach to philanthropic giving. She is fascinated by the intersection of animal, human and environmental injustices, where these issues often collide and create an immense amount of suffering. Meghan has expertise in vetting which non-profits will make the best use of your charitable donations and be the most sustainable, teaching best-practices in non-profit governance, creating systems, process and procedures for philanthropic giving, and building funder networks and trainings.
Meghan started her career as an actress and musician, studying musical theatre through undergrad and graduate school and then working professionally in that sector. She then built on these skills by becoming a teacher of communication and public speaking at the Borough of Manhattan Community College where she empowered her students to embrace the art of storytelling. While later working in the financial sector, Meghan had time to further develop and refine the curriculum she had created to be used more broadly by philanthropists, advocates and community organizers. Meghan has provided training in public speaking and effective communication to individuals all over the globe. She has extensive experience working with professionals at all levels of their careers on almost every continent.
Meghan LOVES relational literacy, any book on emotional intelligence, learning about trauma and how it informs our decisions, organizational theories for internal and external use, Esther Perel, therapy, animal videos and her family. She is a step-mother to two incredible boys and a bio mom to a third son. Meghan is a wife, daughter, sister, cousin, advocate, leader and lover of words. She is very GOOD at losing her airpods and quite BAD at cooking.
“Meghan is likely one of the most capable individuals in the world in the grant making sector. Aside from her EA oriented due diligence and grant making style, she is also a top-notch systems person who has been instrumental in creating new funders networks, conferences, training workshops, approaches to grant making, and much more.”
—Jim Greenbaum, The Greenbaum Foundation
“Meghan's coaching was game-changing for my TED talk. I felt confident in my script, but she helped me bring it alive through more natural and personable delivery that set it apart from other talks. She also communicated her advice in a way that really resonated and helped me continue to improve on both the script and delivery outside of our sessions. The feedback I received after my TED talk was that the delivery and story-telling nature - amplified by Meghan's support - made it land so much more effectively.”
—Sarah Lake, CEO, Tilt Collective
“Meghan is a talented program designer, strategist and manager. I worked closely with her to develop a global animal advocacy program that makes micro grants to grassroots activists on four different continents. Once she helped ensure that program was funded and launched, Meghan spearheaded implementation, hired and trained staff, and set up evaluation and reporting systems. Meghan is an absolute joy to work with and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her.”
—Alissa Hauser, Project Manager, Constructive Capital Dr. Bronner’s

Working with Meghan has been an absolute joy! Meghan consulted and supported me on a project for our philanthropic foundation, and she went above and beyond to make it a success. Meghan is wonderful to work with, I loved every time we met and left each meeting feeling invigorated, clear and motivated to move forward. Meghan is professional, detail-oriented, and a go-getter.
